Looking Forward // about / future Students for a Sustainable Stanford has greatly expanded its range of projects in the last few years. For instance, we have been very sucessful in encouraging the dining halls to purchase local and organic produce. While working with the dining halls, we have been able so set up several community gardens around campus that provide organic produce while educating students about sustainable agriculture. Additionally, we are helping Stanford adopt targets to reduce its greenhouse gas emmissions, and also educating administrators about the benefits of buying recycled paper instead of virgin paper. The green-building mission of our club has blossomed into a larger project to make a new dorm that is one of the greenest buildings in the nation. We would like, however, to increase the scope and turnover of our projects, by organizing more students around their common interests. We would like to increase the amount of collaboration among student groups and faculty groups (like the Woods Institute for the Environment) while also maintaining the focus and efficiency of small groups. Our long-term hope is that the University continues to flourish and produce great minds, informed citizens, and a liveable future for the generations to come. |
