Exciting computational tools
We provide advanced computing tools for the modern geoscientist. Faculty and students have access to a rich portfolio of platforms and tools that closely align with their digital research needs.
The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability provides a portfolio of computational resources, including a high performance computer cluster, together with GPUs and Petabytes of storage. These and other resources enable our researchers access to the platforms and resources that best align with their current and future research needs.
Stanford University computing resources
Computational resources are available at the University level including a shared computer cluster commonly known as Sherlock, an XStream GPU Cluster, and scalable high performance computing storage service offerings.
Computer teaching lab
A dedicated computer classroom is available for the school's courses. There are 21 dual-boot iMac computers that run 64-bit Windows 10 and Mac OS X. This classroom also includes a teaching podium and digital audio-visual equipment.
Geo-imaging, Research, and Design Lab (GRID)
The GRID lab supports high-end workstations running Mac and Windows OS with ArcGIS, ENVI, Matlab, Comsol, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office and others. Scanners, printers and large format plotters are available for presentation posters.
