Drive a few minutes west from campus and you hit Stanford’s 1,198 acre Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, a protected space that provides a natural laboratory for researchers, educational experiences to students and docent-led visitors, and refuge to native plants and animals. Stanford Earth Professor Chris Field is a founder and principal investigator of the Jasper Ridge Global Change Experiment, one of the longest-running climate change studies, that has been testing how the grasslands would respond to possible future climates.
"In a half-hour walk you can pass through a half-dozen ecosystems," Field said. "The preserve is a bouquet of the richness of planet Earth."
