Geological sciences alumna receives 2021 Jamieson Award
Sulgiye Park, PhD ’18, has been recognized for her PhD and postdoctoral work on understanding a wide array of functional materials at extreme environments.
Sulgiye Park, who received her PhD in geological sciences in 2018 and is currently a Stanton Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for International Security and Cooperation, has been selected to receive the prestigious 2021 Jamieson Award at the Conference on Science at Extreme Conditions in July.
The Jamieson Award is presented every other year to a graduate student or postdoctoral researcher for outstanding achievement in the field of high-pressure research. Park is being recognized for her PhD and postdoctoral work on understanding a wide array of functional materials at extreme environments. Most recently, Park has been involved with studying national security issues related to the nuclear fuel cycle in North Korea.
While at Stanford, Park was co-advised by geological sciences professors Rod Ewing and Wendy Mao and was part of the Extreme Environments Laboratory, which explores topics at the intersection of high pressure science.
